I decided that I'd never play it, so intense was my dislike for the way people uplifted it by trashing WoW. Until now. Two years later, I found it was free to download and free to play. Meanwhile Belghast has been blogging about it, and my curiosity was finally piqued enough to give it a shot. So I downloaded, installed, patched and logged in. I was shocked.
The truth is, Rift actually does a lot of things really well. Mind you I'm brand new, and only level 10 at this point. But what I've found so far that does blow WoW equivalents out of the water, is impressive to me. Though some might seem trivial to others...such as being able to target where you cast your fishing line. I've always wished for that! Character creation is amazing, graphics are gorgeous!
No race/class restrictions, which is really nice. I always disliked that I couldn't play a night elf or dranei if I wanted to play a warlock. But the best part? No faction wall. Guardians and Defiants can group, talk, even be in guilds together. Which makes far more sense since both sides are working towards the same goal! Aren't they usually in WoW too? Everyone is trying to get the monster at the end of the book defeated, but they can't work together to do it?
And personal dimensions...aka player housing, and guild housing! I won't lie, one of my favorite parts of Skyrim have been decorating my homes. But to have somewhere to call "mine" in an MMO is something I've never experienced, let alone to be able to furnish, and build.
And on a final note, about the above mentioned character creation? This is what I always wished my night elf druid could look like...
